What is pilates?
Spoiler alert: It's not the same as Yoga! Pilates is a system of exercises using mats and specialized equipment to encourage the body to move in the most efficient way possible. Developed by a man named Joseph Pilates, he believed the secret to life-long health was in the complete coordination between the body, mind and spirit. Pilates encourages you to tap into the deep muscles in your body to strengthen with length and control, and achieve uniform development. Paired with purposeful breath, these movements are accomplished with articulation and decompression of joints with an emphasis on oppositional energy to find the ease of movement we were all designed to have.
Pilates on THE mat
Pilates on the mat (sometimes referred to as Matwork) is a way to stretch and strengthen your body. With traditional exercises like The Hundred and The Teaser, we challenge not only your body, but also your mind. One of the many Pilates superpowers you can achieve is a deep mind/body connection. Always Pilates believes this is one of the most important skills a Pilates practice can give you. Utilizing props like the Magic Circle or resistance bands, we dive deep into the method to discover each clients inner strength and ability to accomplish their goals and overcome obstacles to achieve living life to its fullest.
Pilates on the equipment
Joseph Pilates engineered and designed several pieces of Pilates apparatus to facilitate his method of corrective exercise. This equipment is designed with spring resistance to provide assistance or challenge where necessary.
